Happy summer!

Well, summer is definitely upon us, and we are ready for it here at your friendly neighborhood food co-op!

First and foremost, we are thrilled to report that we are receiving a big delivery of super-fresh local produce today straight from The Campaign Against Hunger‘s urban farms right here in Brooklyn and Queens! If you’re not familiar with this amazing organization, they are a non-profit based in Bed-Stuy that is dedicated to supporting the community by offering an array of anti-hunger and anti-poverty services as well as employing local youth. They’ve lost a significant amount of federal funding, so we’re really looking forward to helping them out during these difficult times and bringing their wonderful fresh produce straight to you!  And meanwhile, please be sure to visit their website at https://www.tcahfarms.org/ to learn more about them, and don’t forget to check out our full produce list every week here on our website, too — it’s under the What’s in Store tab!

And speaking of fresh goodness, we are loaded up with everything you need for your festivities this weekend — picnics, BBQs, beach trips, hanging with friends and family, whatever you have going — we have all your revelry covered! And we are open tomorrow, July 4, from 9am-3pm!

Here are our hours this week:

  • Thursday, July 3, 3pm-8pm
  • Friday, July 4, 9am-3pm
  • Saturday, July 5, 10am-5pm
  • Sunday, July 6, 10am-5pm

See you soon!

Vendor Spotlight!

Gotham Greens

Have you tried the gorgeous butterhead or greenhouse crunch lettuce that we’ve been stocking at the coop lately?  Or the super delish vegan pesto or green goddess dip?  These awesome products come from Gotham Greens, an urban agriculture initiative that started out in a greenhouse on a rooftop in Greenpoint, right here in Brooklyn!

Gotham Greens has a truly inspiring story that fully complements our goals at the coop!  The initiative began with a few intrepid folks rethinking the relationship between high quality food, environmental sustainability, and urban environments.  Their unique solution?  Repurposing rooftops to grow produce hydroponically!  In this way, they contribute to the communities in which they’re based while also challenging the status quo and imagining new possibilities for food production, consumption, and all the variables in between.  Their farming methods use minimal resources, their greenhouses are powered by solar and wind energy, and their products are distributed locally, further reducing their environmental impact.  We’re excited to support them and get the word out about them – you can learn more about them on their website!

Happy Spring!

Things are blooming here at your friendly neighborhood open-to-all food coop! What’s especially exciting is that we’re actively inviting local producers to join us in bringing wonderful local goods straight to YOU!! And if you’d like to be even more on top of happenings at the coop, please stop by the store anytime we’re open or email us at wtfcstoremanagers@gmail.com and we’ll add you to our mailing list on the spot!

So, in case you haven’t heard, we’ve recently partnered with local cocineros to bring you fresh vegan, vegetarian, chicken, and beef arepas, with an awesome guasacaca sauce, every Friday! They usually arrive around 1pm, so put that in your calendars!

We’ve also recently partnered with our neighbor Malicka’s Bakes to bring you delicious s’more, cookies and cream, and double chocolate hazelnut cookies every Friday! NOM! Come on down and scoop some up!

Most of all, in these difficult times, this is a great opportunity to show your support for these local entrepreneurs and help them along in their endeavors to provide great quality products to their neighbors! Big co-op and neighborhood love! See you soon!

Happy 10 years to us, your community-owned hub for good eats, good works, and good cheer!

Windsor Terrace Food Coop Celebrates 10 Years

Our mighty little coop had a wonderful day on Sunday, March 23, with members, friends, neighbors, and plenty of new folks, too, coming out to enjoy the sunshine and the great energy!  Our local kombucha, apple, and pastry tastings were a big hit, as was Mike & Sons knife and tool sharpening service!

A big thanks to local officials Robert Carroll and Shahana Hanif for celebrating with us!  We even received a framed document commemorating the occasion – very special indeed!

Our bake-off was also a great success, with our winner baking us a gorgeous homemade birthday cake!  Wow!

Join us on Sunday, March 23rd, from 11am – 1pm as we celebrate 10 years of the Windsor Terrace Food Coop, our community owned and volunteer operated grocery store!

We’ll be celebrating at the store with a community bake off as well as tastings of locally grown apple varieties, locally brewed kombucha on tap, and pastries from our local baker, Colson’s Patisserie.  Come try our goods – the merriment is open to all!

If you’re a member, put your baking skills out there — make a baked good using coop ingredients, and win $20 off at the shop if you get the most votes.  Let’s see which baker wins the public taste test!

Mike & Sons, a sharpening service serving NYC since 1941, plans to park their sharpening truck nearby, too, so bring your kitchen knives and tools for quick and affordable expert sharpening. See you there!
