What is the Windsor Terrace Food Coop?
We are a community-owned and member-operated food cooperative with more than 500 members. We are located at 825 Caton Ave., at the junction of two Brooklyn communities: Windsor Terrace and Kensington. Many of our members also come from surrounding neighborhoods including Flatbush, Ditmas, Sunset Park, Park Slope and Gowanus. We opened in 2015 as a result of strong community interest in thoughtfully-sourced local and organic food, and we’ve continued to grow ever since thanks to the commitment of our members!
How is the Coop run?
The Coop is overseen by its Board of Directors, who are elected by the members at the Annual Membership Meeting held in June. Regular board meetings are held monthly and are open to all members. The board also convenes general membership meetings four times a year including the Coop Annual Meeting held in June. All decisions related to the operation of the Coop are made by the members and are implemented by the Board and managers. Members are the very foundation of the Coop! For more information, please consult our bylaws.

Are financial donations to the Coop tax-deductible?
The Cooperative was incorporated in 2014, according to the laws of New York State, as a Food Cooperative. Although the Coop is a non-profit, which means that all of its profits go to the operation of the cooperative, it cannot be a Federally IRS-designated 501c3, because of its incorporation status. Therefore, donations are not, at this time, tax deductible.
However, the New York State legislature is presently considering modifying the cooperative law that would permit donations to food coops to be deductible.
Are membership fees tax-deductible?
No, they are not.
What do I do if I want to leave the Coop?
Simply email Membership with your contact information and reason for leaving.
